Primary Government Sources: State Agencies
The information below provides you facts about each agency, special attention is given regarding online access to court records from the State Judicial Systems.

Be aware of the many possible nuances and variations. Availability and accuracy will vary by state, especially if searching online.

State Repository

The central Criminal Record Repository is a warehouse of information submitted by state, county, parish, and municipal courts and from local law enforcement (often submitted only with fingerprints). There are several cautionary facts to note. The repository records are more apt to only have convictions (no pendings) and can be missing dispositions or delayed disposition updates. If a deferred adjudication case is revoked, the resulting conviction may not make it into the repository. Records are not necessarily open to the public; often a signed release is needed.

State Office of Court Administration

In general, the records found using a state’s Judicial System are more likely to show arrests and have the final disposition than records found at the state repository. Often the online search is free, but not always. The use of subscription accounts or a on a pay-as-you-go basis is common, and usually these systems are more robust.
